Must Be The Testosterone

If a TV fell on my head, I’d want to go to the ER. Wouldn’t you?
When Boomer got hurt, he wanted my mom to fix up his booboo because he was worried that he’d have to have part of his hair shaved in order to stitch it up. It’s in the front, very close to his hair line. And Boomer has long hair. Long, beautiful, big-curled hair, in fact.
Today on my way to the doctor, I picked up Boomer at school. I wanted to get him in to see the doctor. But the doctor had an emergency and I had to reschedule for next week. So I went to the ER with Boomer.
We were standing in the ER. We were talking to the nurse. Boomer turned around and walked away. All he said was, “Take me back to school.”
When I asked him why he wanted to go back to school he said he didnt’ want his head shaved. My Boomer is no Britney Spears.

Tagged: My Five Favorite Movies
- by Marisa
- January 7, 2007
I got tagged by my good friend Skeet from Hawaii. She wants to know my 5 favorite movies of all time.
This was harder than I thought it would be. It isn’t that I couldn’t think of 5 favorite movies but that I had a hard time narrowing it down. And I just know I’m going to forget some really fantastic movie that ought to be on this list. Now, I’m not going to go too far back in time. I mean, I just loved All My Sons with Edward G. Robinson and Burt Lancaster but I’m not including that. And I loved all the Rocky and Rambo movies because I have a thing for Sylvestor Stallone but don’t ask me to explain it. I would have included the Omen except that I’d have to use three spots for that because the trilogy is what makes it so good. And then there’s Pulp Fiction, one of the best ever, but I left it off because there wasn’t enough room and I’ve seen it fewer times (like 3) than any of the others.
So, here are the ones that made my list.
Schindler’s List. Even though this film was really long and in black and white, it was so gripping and moving that I just couldn’t turn away from it. I was so touched by this movie that I watched it again the very next day, this time with my oldest son. And he was engrossed throughout. Just the most amazing film I’ve ever seen.
Passion of the Christ. Another one of those films that grab you and won’t let go. I can’t speak for anyone other than me but what really got me about this film was Mary, the Mother of Christ. I’m a mother; I could relate. I sobbed like a baby through this movie. Just fantastic.
Mystic River. I love Sean Penn. His acting range is so wide that I never know what to expect from him. Mystic River did not disappoint. I love a good mystery, too and this one had a great twist. Oh, and I’ve been in love with Kevin Bacon since he played Tim on uh…. what soap was that? A CBS one I believe.
Legends of the Fall. Does anyone not like this one? I’m no longer a Brad Pitt fan because I totally can’t stand cheaters and he did. But the fact is, when my sister was watching this with her kids she had to stop the movie and call me. It seems her kids were convinced that the Brad Pitt character was my husband, their Uncle Brian. And yes, back in the day, Brian did look kind of like that with a beard and all. So that’s mostly why this one had to be on my list.
Moonstruck. Okay, this one is on by default. Yes, I enjoyed it but it really isn’t my very very very favorite. It’s just that I love Cher and Nic Cage. (Hey, I named my kid Nicholas, didn’t I?) I really wanted to put Mask and Peggy Sue Got Married because anytime those two films are on TV I’ll end up sitting and watching. And of cousre I love Kathleen Turner, too. And I’m obsessed with time travel. So yeah, Moonstruck is a way to get both Cher and Nic Cage in together. Maybe that’s cheating, huh?
So, there you have it. My favortie movies. And now I tag Lillian, Brian and Dan.

All DAy At The Funeral Home
- by Marisa
- January 4, 2007
I’m dead tired. My feet hurt. And we’ll be gone by 8am tomorrow.
It was nice seeing so many of my cousins. I come from a family of really good people.
Now I have to find something appropriate for Boomer to wear. He’s growing so fast that his suit from last May doesn’t fit him now. Geez.

Supplementing Weight Loss
- by Marisa
- January 1, 2007
I know, I’m kind of obsessed sometimes wth herbal supplements. And I can’t stop trying to find the best way to lose weight. So of course I’m looking at supplements to help me in my weight loss endeavors, right?
I’ve tried various brands and I’m convinced that the off brands or generics are just not the same quality as the name brands. I’ve checked out Herbalife International and found a distibutor less than 10 miles from me. I’d like to compare Herbalife supplements to some of the others I’ve used. I’m especially interested in their Snack Defense supplement with Gymnema sylvestre and Chromium polynicotinate, two supplements that I’ve found impressive in the past.
I think I’ll contact the Herbalife Distributor in my area and ask about products containing Hoodia, too.

Frustrating FireFox Again
- by Marisa
- December 31, 2006
I am having so many issues with my computer and Firefox right now that I’m ready to throw the whole machine out the window.
Okay, not really. But I would like to punch someone something.
I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled version 2.x so many times and it just won’t work. I click the shortcut or go to start->run and still nothing. So I’m back using 1.5 and it’s decided to take the slooooooow train. You can count to 3 waiting to switch between tabs. Yes, this happened before. Yes, I fixed it. No, I’m not sure how I fixed it. Thus, my insane moment tonight.
I might be forced to use my laptop.

DMV Headache
- by Marisa
- December 29, 2006
I won’t even go into all the details. Some things are just too monotonous and painful to relive. I’ll just say that dealing with the DMV, or any government agency for that matter, is nerve wracking, mind boggling and just plain useless. I feel like I’ve just run around in circles for the past 3 hours.
In the end, though, Jesse finally got his dirver’s license renewed. He shouldn’t have any trouble boarding planes now. And he can drive my car while he’s home. Uh…. wait a minute. Maybe that isn’t so good afterall.

Getting Ready For the Holidays
- by Marisa
- December 23, 2006
Today will be spent cleaning up. YUCK!
I’m going to sweep and mop and vacuum and dust and wipe and shine and spit and polish. Okay, maybe not all that. But I am going to get things nice for Christmas.
Oh, did you know? I hate to clean. I’d rather order my kids to do it but I just don’t have the heart to do that during this season of love and giving.
Back to the grind.

If We All Work Together
- by Marisa
- December 11, 2006
We can make a difference. Sometimes, we just need a little nudge. Today, I’m giving you that nudge.
This is really easy and ought to be affordable for most. My friend, Colleen, is doing the 3-day, 60 mile walk in Tampa for Breast Cancer research. The net proceeds go to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund.
Colleen is hoping she can get 108 people to donate $20 each so she can reach her goal. Of course, you can donate more or less than that, too. Your donation is tax deductible as well.
Please consider giving to this cause. It would make a wonderful Holiday gesture of love. And if you can’t donate right now, feel free to post this on your journal to help get the word out.

HoHoHo and PPP
- by Marisa
- December 7, 2006
I haven’t touched my PPP money yet. PPP is PayPerPost, the marketplace that connects bloggers with those who want to advertise on blogs. I started this at the beginning of October and so far I’ve been paid over $300. I’ve earned an additional $200+ that I’ll recieve over the next several weeks. That’s almost $600! Go me!
We’re on a tight budget this year for Christmas and the kids know it. Everyone has shaved down their wish lists to a few special items. None of the kids are complaining, even a little bit. Makes me appreciate them even more. I really do have great kids.
I want to do something special for the kids, something they’re not expecting. I’m thinking about using my PPP money to buy them a new TV. The one in the family room is a 27 inch but the kids are wanting a bigger TV, preferably a flat screen.
I’m thinking that if I wait til after Christmas I’ll have more money and prices will be lower. Then I might be able to get them an HDTV, which is what they’ve been wanting. I know it’ll be a big surprise. And then I’ll have to start saving again for that trip to Hawaii.
