The Switchover

I’ve helped my neighbor, Tammie, with her Windows laptop because she’s been a Mac girl. She’s doing fine with Windows in general but I’m having some trouble finding a replacement for her favorite Mcintosh graphic design program. Let’s face it, some Windows software just isn’t as intuitive as Mac software.

Right now, I’ve loaded a few freeware titles onto her machine. I’ve got a few other programs as trial software to let her try. Perhaps in a week or so she’ll be able to decide which programs are the easiest for her to grasp. And who knows? Maybe I’ll find a new favorite, too!

The secret of effective internet marketing lies in the fact that the free web space offered by the domain hosting service should be made full use of. This is true ecommerce web hosting. Ideally, an email hosting service should be given priority. Strategies like cpc or ppi don’t really matter. All these things matter in internet marketing.

Mom’s Work Is Never Done

I’ve been trying to keep the house as neat and tidy as possible lately, mostly because it was much too hot to do major cleaning with no A/C. The kids have been helpful so that’s good but there are just some things that they always miss.

For instance, they never think to pick up the cushions on the chair and couch to get the stuff that makes its way down there. They have never even considered taking a rag and wiping any part of the range hoods even though they all know how to turn it on. And for some reason, the very males who lift the toilet seat to uh… use it, never think to pick up the seat to wipe under it when they’re on bathroom duty.

So even with help, mom ends up going back and doing the extra stuff that no one thinks about. Thank goodness the A/C is finally fixed?

Living Outdoors

Now that we no longer have a patio out back – it’s becoming Nick and Brit’s apartment – I need to find a new way to store my lawn furniture. When the weather is really bad, it’s a pain lugging those plastic lawn chairs into the house. They take up quite a bit of room. I saw some nice outdoor folding chairs at the mall last week that I’m thinking of getting. I’d have gotten them that day but the trunk was already filled with Kendyll’s stroller.

Perhaps Brian will let me borrow his truck this week. Hauling things home won’t be an issue then.

Better Late Than Never

mothers day giftsI was supposed to do this weeks ago but just now took the pictures off my camera. I’m a procrastinator about that stuff sometimes.

The beautiful hanging plant is from my oldest Son Chris and his fiance, Leah. The vase with a dozen red roses is from my second son, Jesse.

Aren’t they just the best sons ever?

Mother’s Day gets harder and harder as my kids move out of the house. I know Nick and Brit and Kendyll will be living out back but still. It isn’t like they’ll be right here. And then before you know it, Boomer will be out of high school and going to college and Maggie will go the following year. And I’ll be left to wonder where the time went.

The flowers and plants are pretty but they don’t compare to the memories of this house filled to the brim with kids. I miss that.

Let The Renovations Begin!

Fifteen years ago last month, my husband built an addition to our home that turned into a major renovation. Rather than simply tying the addition into the existing house, he tore down the existing house and rebuilt it. Seriously. You could stand on the sidewalk and look down into the basement. That’s all we had left of our house.

And speaking of sidewalks, those ended up destroyed in the process. We lived in our garage for 8 months while Brian rebuilt the house well enough to move into just 10 days before Christmas. It was another year before the brick was complete, six months after that before I got a side porch/deck and 2 more years before I had a back porch. I’m still waiting for sidewalks.

Well, I was waiting. When Brian returned from Hawaii, I told him I really want sidewalks. He didn’t say much at first so I asked him how much money we’d need to pour the concrete. He told me. I told him I had that much saved. Man, did his ears perk up and his eyes pop out! He knew I’d been blogging for PayPerPost and a few other companies but he didn’t think I was earning more than enough for a gallon of gas here and there. He had no clue.

So now we’re doing the preliminary work for our sidewalks. Except Brian can never do only what we set out to do; if he builds it, he must overbuild it. Not only is he putting in sidewalks, he’s also torn off my side porch/deck. The purpose of this is so that he can replace it with a closed-in laundry room/mud room. He’s also going to replace the chain link fence between our house and Tammie and BJ’s house. (Although I’ve requested a gate between our yard so we can go back and forth in our jammies without the neighbors seeing. ;) ) Yes, this is a wonderful idea. No, I did not budget for this. And remember, we’re also not completely done with Nick and Brit’s apartment out back. ~Sigh~

Since Tammie already posted a picture of my missing side porch/deck, I’ll add a few other angles. First, the heavy equipment in front of the house.

And then, what was left of my deck when I finally opened my front door to look outside. :(

deck destroyed

I know when it’s all done it will look fantastic. My husband does unbelievable work and the mess is always worth it in the end. Ijust have to keep reminding myself that it won’t be long until it’s all done. :)

Outdoor Decorating

Summer is here! Usually that means getting the pool up and running but this year we have no pool. :( Yes, I miss it. But now I have a nice big backyard to landscape and furnish. I’m thinking about what plants to put back there and where to put my new teak outdoor furniture. I think I’d like a play area back there for Kendyll, too.

Now I just have to enlist some strong guys (aka husband and sons) to move things around and arrange it to my specifications. Who wants to help me round up the boys?

Just The Two Of Us

Brian laid out a list of things he wants to get done around the house. He wants to finish the apartment out back for Brit and Nick and he wants to get our sidewalks installed around the house. When he’s done, he says we can go away for a few days. Without the kids!!!

I’m not sure where he’s planning to go just yet. We’ve discussed a warmer climate, preferably with a beach. We’ve looked at prices on an Orlando Vacation and compared flying versus driving. If I had my choice, though, we’d just get in the car and start driving. I want to be a vagabond for a weekend

College Debt

Poor Jesse. He racked up quite a bit of student debt while he was in college and is still trying to pay it back. I still can’t believe how much he owes. He thought most of it was grants; if so, that education should did cost quite a bit! I’m trying to encourage Jesse to look into some kind of school loan consolidation so he can get past this as quickly and easily as possible. He’s thinking about it.

I was really hoping that Jesse would have the money to have the Honda shipped to Hawaii but with this student loan hanging over him, that may not happen. We have room to store the car for now, but maybe the desire to have it there with him will be enough to prompt him to take action. At least I hope so.

Another Couch

My kids are so hard on our home furniture. As much as I want a brand new couch, I just can’t bring myself to spend that kind of money on something the kids are going to destroy in less than a year.

Yes, they will.

So I’m looking in the Merchanette, a free want ads paper in the area. I’ve seen several couches in excellent condition advertised. I guess it’s time to call a schedule appointments to see what’s out there. I don’t think another slip cover is going to work again.

A Heavy Heart

It’s been a rough few days.

Leah lost the baby.
