Tattoo Meme

  • by Marisa
  • July 26, 2007

Lisa tagged me for an easy meme - I like that! All you have to do is take a picture of your tattoo and post it on your blog. We’d love to know where it is but you don’t have to tell us if you don’t want. Link to the person who tagged you and at the end of your post, tag some other bloggers who have tattoos. Easy, right?

Here’s my tattoo, located on my left front hip. (there’s a bigger picture of it somewhere on my site. ;) )

dande tat

My friend drew the dandelion that I use here on my site. I took it in to Greg at Greg’s Tattooing in the Elm Grove section of Wheeling, WV and he did the tat from that graphic. I wanted it to be strong and sexy and I think it is. :) The six seeds floating at the top represent my six kids.

I’ve never regretted getting that tattoo once. I thought about it long and hard so when I finally did it, I knew it was right.

And now I tag:

The Chore and Allowance System at PAYjr.com is great for young kids. My 10 year old son, Levi, loves it. I’ve even been able to use it to some extent with my 14 year old daughter and 15 year old son. It really isn’t hard to adapt to your own family. However, my teens and I do find ourselves wanting something that gives the kids a little more conrol while still keeping me at the helm. The answer? The PAYjr Prepaid MasterCard.

I’m going to state right up front that this is not a credit card. This is a pre-paid Mastercard that can be re-loaded with allowance, money from doing chores, gifts or other cash that your teen gets. You child cannot spend more money than is pre-loaded on the card.

Because this is a card with a running balance, the parent has more control than with cash. PAYjr system allows the parent to set up notifications for whenever the card is used. That means that the parent knows exactly how the money is being spent so that any concerns can be addressed. First and foremost, this program is a tool that allows parents to teach their children about finances and the value of money and savings.

Both parents and teens have access to account balances and can be notified by email or text message of any card activity like spending or loading. This system gives parents reassurance while allowing teens some control over their own money. The PAYjr Pre-Paid Mastercard can also be used at ATMs with no fees through the Allpoint network. Naturally, I wanted to know if there are any Allpoint ATMs in my area and was thrilled to find over 150 outlets within 50 miles of my home.

As I looked over the PAYjr site I became more and more convinced that this could be a valuable tool in my teens’ financial education. And yes, I wished it had been around when my older, now adult, children were young. Yet, I wondered about the price. I remembered that my daughter, Maggie, had recieved a Mastercard gift card for her birthday from her godmother this past year.

Poetry 101

It’s been years - decades, even - since I’ve written a poem. I used to write poetry all the time when I was in high school. Not too into it now but my friend Julie tagged me for this poetry meme so I’m going to step back in time and give this a go.

Julie started me off with the first line: Roses are red. Hmmm…. should I go serious, sweet or funny?

Roses are red
The saying goes
But they also
Tickle my nose.

So, there you have it. And it’s proof that I shouldn’t start writing poetry again. :)

So let’s hear from 3 more aspiring poets:

Elizabeth
Eve
Eliza

(Yes, I picked three E’s. I’m all about alliteration right now.)

SupahStar Marcus

  • by Marisa
  • February 18, 2007

It’s that time of the week again. Colleen, over at GeekySpeaky has chosen this week’s SupahStar. Aren’t you wondering who it is?

This week’s SupahStar is Marcus, North Carolina Sports fan extraordinaire and all around great guy. *Side note: Marcus is single, girls! And he’s one of the “good guys” so get over to his blog and get to know him!

I’ve been waiting patiently for Marcus to receive and test his new camera. I’m dying to know what kind of picture quality it has since I’m always looking for reviews of things my kids are hounding me to buy.

I guess I really trust his judgment. That’s why I’m now actually looking into Windows Vista. I know, I hate Microsoft. Or maybe I love/hate them. Whatever. Marcus just posted screenshots of Vista and now I want it, too.

So now that you know a little about Marcus, get on over to his blog and start reading. He’s a real blogging SupahStar, you know.

Being Grateful

  • by Marisa
  • February 13, 2007

My friend, Marcus, tagged me for this one. So here are the three things I’m grateful for.

1. My family. My parents have given me the best example of generosity of love by their own example. I am so blessed to have been born to them. My children keep me honest, keep me going and keep me laughing. My granddaughter and her mommy have given me a brand new reason to never give up. My family is my heart.

2. My needs are met. I’m grateful that I’m not hungry or cold or homeless. I have a place to live and food in the kitchen. I know where I’ll lay my head tonight and where I’ll awake in the morning. I even have some of my “wants,” too. I have a computer with a high speed connection. I have a TV with cable. I have a car to get me where I need or want to go. I’m so grateful that I have been given so much.

3. My Faith. No matter what happens in my life or how I mess up, I always have the love of my Father. I can’t imagine what would have happened to me in this life if I hadn’t had my Faith to get me through. God has never turned His back on me and I will be forever grateful for His neverending love.

And now I tag: Ms. Kat, Lisa and Skeet.

The Z-List

  • by Marisa
  • February 10, 2007

My buddy, known around the interweb as JimiMorrison, added me to the Z-list. This may explain the added traffic to my site recently. Added traffic is good. I need more readers. :)

So now I’m going to add some friends to the list and pass it on. Here’s the explanation, from *Blog Op*:

The premise is simple: Write a post, and copy and paste my list from below into it. Make sure the links are active and correct. If your blog is on that list, remove it because your post isn’t about self-promotion. Don’t worry, because if your name is on mine, it’s on others and will spread. Add your favourite deserving blogs to the top of the list (not compulsory). Publish the post. People will notice the incoming links, and hopefully write their own z-list posts. The result will be that we all get more links pointing to our blogs, and more readers - got to be good!

Key Points

1) Create a new post on your blog.
2) Copy and Paste the entire list of blog links below (easiest way is to right-click>View Page Source>Copy the long list of code that has the links in it)
3) Add any blogs that you want to include near the top of the list. (Optional)
4) Include the blog where you first got the list from, in your post as well as with your adds if they aren’t in the Originals list already. (I’ve seen them excluded from lists and not carried forward, so make sure you include the one that you are going to give credit for putting you on the list.) .

5) Do not include your own blog links on the list in your post.
6) Make sure that all links are copied intact.
7) Publish the Post.

Weekend Music Meme

  • by Marisa
  • February 4, 2007

This is my favorite Meme, ever. It’s an old one, from way back in 2001, but it’s still the best. And it’s lots of fun!

So, here’s the scoop. Answer each question with a lyric from a song. If you know the name of the song or the artist of the lyrics I’ve listed, add them in the comments. Or just take some wild guesses!

1.) Are you male or female?:
…the most she will do is throw shadows at you but she’s always a woman…

2.) Describe your neighborhood:
this is just a little peyton place….

3.) How do you look?:
brown eyed girl

4.) If you could say something to the person you like, what would it be?
Give me your heart make it real or lets forget about it.

5.) Where do you wish you were right now?
on the shores of Hanalei

6.) What would you say to your best friend?:
You know I’d like to see more of you but it’s all I can do to be a mother

7.) Any words of wisdom:
And in the end the love you take is equal to the love you make.

8.) Describe yourself:
Though sometimes it seems she ain’t worth the trouble at all
she can be worth the world if somehow you can touch her at all.

9.) What do you think of drugs and alcohol?:
No, no, no, no I don’t smoke it no more, I’m tired of waking up on the floor

10.) If you could say one thing to your enemy, what would it be?:
If you told me you were drowning, I would not lend a hand….
…so you can wipe off that grin, I know where you been. It’s all been a pack of lies.

11.) What do you usually do on Friday nights?:
I go to sleep and imagine that you’re there with me

12.) Are you for world peace?:
I love the world and if I have to sue for custody, I will sue for custody

13.) What do you think about school?:
we were just young and restless and bored

14.) How do you feel right now?:
I feel ugly but I know I still turn you on

15.) Any closing words?:
Though I’m content with myself sometimes I long to be somewhere else.
