Get There Early

  • by Marisa
  • March 1, 2007

There’s a new blog in town and it’s going to be hot!

My dear friend, Tammie, is blogging now. Tammie is an excellent writer and an outstanding journalist, just finishing a stint at a local radio station. She’s trying her hand at something a bit new to her but I just know she’s going to shine at this. It all comes down to talent and Tammie has plenty of that!

If you’re interested in a wide variety of topics, from sports and finance to politics and humor, stop on by Tammie’s blog. Even though it’s brand new I get the feeling it’s going to be a lot like a morning radio talk show, but in blog form. Maybe if we’re lucky, there’ll be podcasts in the future!

Just consider this your special invite to get on over to Tammie’s blog to get to know her. You’re going to love this lady!

Another SupahStar

I know, I’m a little late on this. It’s a few days past Saturday but it’s not too late to check out the latest SupahStar over at Colleen’s Geeky Speaky Blog.

This week SupahStar is the beautiful Amy. Seriously, “beautiful” is the one word that describes Amy both on the inside and outside. I don’t think I’ve ever known anyone quite like her. She’s so level headed but I think that’s because she’s just a good person. And yet, there’s just enough crazy in her to make me love her even more. :)

Whether she’s blogging about her fabulous chocolate lab or trying to help a friend in need, Amy’s blog is always heart-warming and fun. I’ve gotten to know quite a few wonderful women through PayPerPost and Amy is one of the best! Just visit her blog and I’m sure you’ll agree.

SupahStar Marcus

It’s that time of the week again. Colleen, over at GeekySpeaky has chosen this week’s SupahStar. Aren’t you wondering who it is?

This week’s SupahStar is Marcus, North Carolina Sports fan extraordinaire and all around great guy. *Side note: Marcus is single, girls! And he’s one of the “good guys” so get over to his blog and get to know him!

I’ve been waiting patiently for Marcus to receive and test his new camera. I’m dying to know what kind of picture quality it has since I’m always looking for reviews of things my kids are hounding me to buy.

I guess I really trust his judgment. That’s why I’m now actually looking into Windows Vista. I know, I hate Microsoft. Or maybe I love/hate them. Whatever. Marcus just posted screenshots of Vista and now I want it, too.

So now that you know a little about Marcus, get on over to his blog and start reading. He’s a real blogging SupahStar, you know.

Show Them You Care

I think one of my neatest online discoveries back in the 90s was eCards or online greeting cards. There were literally hundreds of sites, all with unusual and unique ecards. I sent them to anyone with an email address, for every occasion and sometimes for no occasion.

Most of those sites I used to visit now charge quite a bit to send ecards and most of the sites are anything but unique. I learned this yesterday, on Valentine’s Day. How disappointing.

One site, though, makes sending ecards a pleasure again. Egreetings lets you send unique, free funny eCards to all your friends. And every ecard you send can be personalized with your own message, too.

Egreetings.com also offers a paid service that allows you to choose cards and schedule them for delivery on dates you specify. That really makes keeping in touch so easy. And it’s just $13.99/year for unlimited ecards! You can’t buy 4 nice paper cards and mail them for that!

How unique are the ecards? Well, I’ve never seen a Valentine card with Chins before! Be sure to click on the image because the ecard is animated. You’ll want to see it in full action. :)

But don’t wait till next Valentine’s Day to send an ecard. Egreetings.com has ecards for every occasion. Whether you’re congratulating someone, just saying hello or wishing a Happy Birthday, you’ll find the perfect ecard at egreetings.com. (Go ahead, click the cleavage, too. It may not be what you expect. ;) )

Where Is A Christian To Go?

  • by Marisa
  • February 12, 2007

I have quite a few online friends of various faiths. Some are Christian like me. One of the problems we Christian parents have is finding a safe place online for our kids. Even with excellent monitoring, MySpace can be a place that we just don’t want our kids to frequent. And YouTube can be even worse.

Xianz.com is a faith based alternative to MySpace. It has recently released a similar alternative to YouTube, Xianz Watch. It’s just launched and already has hundreds of videos. They’re hoping to have thousands by the end of February.

Xianz Watch, the largest online Christian social network, supports over 20 video formats and offers a video messaging system that allows communicating and video sharing.

Whether you’re looking for something more uplifting and better suited to your views or you just want a safe environment for the young people in your life, Xianz.com is there to fill that need. Give it a look.

The Z-List

  • by Marisa
  • February 10, 2007

My buddy, known around the interweb as JimiMorrison, added me to the Z-list. This may explain the added traffic to my site recently. Added traffic is good. I need more readers. :)

So now I’m going to add some friends to the list and pass it on. Here’s the explanation, from *Blog Op*:

The premise is simple: Write a post, and copy and paste my list from below into it. Make sure the links are active and correct. If your blog is on that list, remove it because your post isn’t about self-promotion. Don’t worry, because if your name is on mine, it’s on others and will spread. Add your favourite deserving blogs to the top of the list (not compulsory). Publish the post. People will notice the incoming links, and hopefully write their own z-list posts. The result will be that we all get more links pointing to our blogs, and more readers - got to be good!

Key Points

1) Create a new post on your blog.
2) Copy and Paste the entire list of blog links below (easiest way is to right-click>View Page Source>Copy the long list of code that has the links in it)
3) Add any blogs that you want to include near the top of the list. (Optional)
4) Include the blog where you first got the list from, in your post as well as with your adds if they aren’t in the Originals list already. (I’ve seen them excluded from lists and not carried forward, so make sure you include the one that you are going to give credit for putting you on the list.) .

5) Do not include your own blog links on the list in your post.
6) Make sure that all links are copied intact.
7) Publish the Post.

Our First SupahStar!

  • by Marisa
  • February 10, 2007

The always creative Colleen over at GeekySpeaky has come up with a great new meme that will help introduce all of us to some really terrific bloggers, and generate traffic to all who participate, too. She’s calling it SupahStar Saturday and today is the first installment.

Our very first Supah Star is the amazing Loretta. She’s amazing because she’s still coherent while raising FOUR sons! Since I have 5 sons, I can relate all too well. It’s a major accomplishment to remain sane in a sea of testosterone. And Loretta is not only sane and coherent, she’s quite entertaining.

I love Loretta for appreciating Ozzy and his genius wife Sharon. I’m also thrilled that in her quest to get fit, she’s considering low-carb, my passion. But mostly, I love her wit. I love her attitude. I love her  views on the word housewife.

Ah, yes. Go read about Loretta. She’s perfect for brightening your Saturday.

Houseful of Kids

  • by Marisa
  • February 4, 2007

The way it is: my husband does not like when the kids have friends stay overnight here. I guess it all goes back to the way he was raised and the way I was raised. We had friends stay overnight a lot. We stayed over at friends’ homes. My husband didn’t do that. No sleepovers.

So since he’s in Hawaii, the kids have their friends here. Josh and Cody are here with Boomer and Levi and Amanda is here with Maggie. And I love it. It would be this way every day if that were possible.

The girls and Levi are awake, the other boys are still asleep. Before long, they’ll all be awake, eating cereal and getting ready for the Super Bowl. I’ll have to get Amanda and Josh home during half time, though, since there’s school tomorrow.

Which brings me to my final thought. Shouldn’t the day after the Super Bowl be considered a national holiday? I’d be willing to give up President’s Day or something for it. Shall we start a petition?

Speak To Me

  • by Marisa
  • February 3, 2007

Language is interesting. It binds people, or divides them. Language is powerful; those able to express themselves well will make their point more effectively. Language is the catalyst for understanding.

My friend, Osman, loves language. He is studying at the Department of English Language Teaching in Turkey. He speaks fluent turkish, is quite good with English, and is learning German and Spanish. He says he understand Kurdish but doesn’t speak it well.

Osman’s newest blog, Linguistics and Languages, is a celebration of language. Whether he’s showing his sense of humor for Wordless Wednesday, wishing his niece a Happy Birthday in various languages or featuring a guest writer, Osman gives new life to language and linguistics and makes the subject interesting and fun.

Check him out!

A Guy With Attitude

  • by Marisa
  • February 2, 2007

I love a guy with attitude. And a sense of humor is icing on the cake. That’s why I love reading “Jimi Morrison’s” Internet. Serious Business blog.

Okay, so Jimi Morrison isn’t his real name. Doesn’t matter. He’s been participating in online communities via forums for quite a while and his observations are right on point. His instruction on how to have a debate regarding the existance of God is the best I’ve ever seen.

Even when he’s discussing something like the terribly overused LMAO, ROFL et el, he slips in an aside that makes me smile: “I find it hard to believe that anyone actually rolls around on the floor and laughs their ass off. I know I never have and I’ve smoked weed.” And that attitude and humor is all over Jimi’s blog.

So read Internet. Serious Business, bookmark iit, add the feed to your reader. And enjoy.
