Baby You Can Drive My Car

  • by Marisa
  • March 29, 2007

I’m not supposed to be into cars. And technically, I’m not. I mean, I don’t know how to work on them although I probably could if I took the time to learn. But I don’t want to mess up my nails, you know?

Nevertheless, I do like cars. I like old cars and fast cars. I love muscle cars. Big luxury cars don’t really catch my eye but show me a 68 Camaro, 69 Charger or a 72 Nova and I’m all over it. I keep hoping one of my sons shows an interest in auto body and car mechanics so I can get one of these classics and have someone to work on it for me.

I’ve been reading over at Low Rider Car Blog and really enjoying the pictures there. I hope Dustin keeps posting a picture each day. Those are great cars. Then I went over to the Low Rider Truck Blog and just loved the picture of the Silverado Drop kit. My husband has a Silverado, crew cab, dually. I don’t think you can put a drop kit on a dually; that’s too bad. I have a hard time getting into my husband’s truck. :)

As I said, though, I’m more into cars. I usually drive my Malibu because it’s good for hauling the kids and dog and groceries around. But when I’m by myself and enjoying life, when the sun is out and the air is warm, this is what I drive.

That one’s for you, Dustin. :)

Is This Worth The Savings?

If I hadn’t seen it, I wouldn’t have believed it. I never really tried to lower my car insurance rate by going online to compare prices. I just figured a few dollars here or there wouldn’t be worth the time. Boy, was I wrong!

Mike, the other guy who is living in the house with my husband and sons in Hawaii, has a van and was looking to insure it. He asked me to search online for a good car insurance quote. It didn’t take long to find one that was several hundred dollars less per month than the quotes that Mike got locally.

Have any of you gotten insurance quotes online? Were they better than prices that were offered locally? And for those who bought car insurance this way, how is the service if you need to make a claim? I guess that’s the big question right now since the prices are obviously unbeatable! Let me know. ;)

Some things just don’t change.

We’re driving around today, just enjoying the beauty of a crisp rain without the accompanying frigid temps when my husband saw it: a crew cab Silverado with a nice ladder rack. Brian was salivating. He could barely speak. He just managed to point out that he’d need a truck just like that if he were to stay in Hawaii and work.

Right.

I don’t know what it is about guys and trucks. My guys just don’t feel complete without a truck. And a truck that’s equipped to work, well, that’s just about the most perfect thing there is. A hitch, a tool box, you name it and my guys are looking to add it to their trucks.

I’d rather have a sports car here. But no one asked me. :)

When A Garage Isn’t Enough

Sometimes a garage isn’t enough to keep your car the way you want it. Case in point: our Honda S2000. We drive the car from around May to September. Well, actually, I drive the car. Brian is always working so he drives his truck. I usually have the kids but when I’m alone, I drive the Honda. Nevertheless, because of the weather we have here, the car is garaged at least half the year and sometimes longer.

And that beautiful black shiney car gets very dusty.

Just this past month we finally paid off the car. Now it’s time to put a little extra money into it. While I’d love to get a spoiler or a new Titanium shift knob, what I really have my eye on are the wolf car covers that are custom fit to the 2002 Honda S2000.

The indoor car cover is made of a thick and soft 4 layer, durable fabric. It offers twice the dust protection of flannel yet is very breathable. Besides keeping the car dust free, it also helps to protect the paint.

The price is right on these covers as well. I’ve priced this cover elsewhere online and at our local Honda dealership and the Car Cove Guys definitely have the best price. I’m bookmarking this site to show Brian. Looks like I’ve found a price he’ll be happy with!

Don’t Buy That Car Without Patty

Have you ever gone to a car dealership to buy a car? Did a salesperson run up to you, eager to help you choose a new vehicle? Or did you have to wait around for the salespeople to finsih their conversations with each other before they even noticed you? If you had to wait, you’re probably a woman.

I always know what I want in a new car but I never go to a dealership alone. I take my husband. It isn’t because he’s a car expert. It isnt’ because I need his opinion. It’s because I just need service and I’m more likely to get it if he’s there.

I’m not sure why women aren’t welcomed more into dealerships but the fact is, we purchase half the cars sold in the US each year. Yet we’re not comfortable shopping alone for our new cars. What we need is confidence. Now you can get that confidence and Find Your Dream Car on Ask Patty!

AskPatty.com has teamed with Chrome to offer women the tools to help choose the right vehicle. From in-depth research to side-by-side car comparisons, AskPatty.com will put you in the car of your dreams.

One feature that I really like is the Female Freindly dealer search. That certainly helps when it comes to narrowing down the dealerships to visit. I’m almost ready to start looking for a new car and AskPatty.com is going to be my first stop on this journey.

I Want A Dodge Charger

With all the talk around the house of traveling and such, Nick has come up with a brilliant idea. After he, Brian and Jesse get to Phoenix, he thinks Brianie, the baby and I should drive to Arizona.

That’s a long trip and I’m not sure we could do it but I’d be willing to give it a try. So I was thinking about that and wondering about my old Malibu and got the idea of maybe driving the Malibu there and trading it on a new car.

That’s when I started looking at dealerships in Phoenix. From there, I looked all over Arizona and then expanded my search to New Mexico, Utah and Nevada. And that’s when I found Bart Barker’s Car Sales.

Why was that significant? Well, I’d been looking at Honda sites but this one has Dodges. Specifically, it has the new Dodge Charger. Yes, I have a thing for muscle cars. And this one made me drool.

So maybe I’ll take that road trip to the West. Maybe we’ll take in some sights and look into trading in the old Malibu while we’re there. Because, I just don’t know if my old chevy will make it out west and back again.

The Fast Lane

I know I’m not the typical car enthusiast. I know that I get strange looks when I drive my Honda S2000, like why is that old lady driving that car? At my age, though, I’m not going to hide my love of cars just because it isn’t typical.

Admittedly, I don’t drive fast very often. That’s because I absolutely detest paying speeding tickets. (Don’t ask me how many times I’ve had to pay them.) So I drive the speed limit, mostly. But I like knowing my car will scoot if I want it to. I mean, you just never know when you’ll find yourself in the middle of some exciting Street Racing, right?

Mostly because of my sons, I’ve also begun to read up on high performance equipment for my car. My sons want me to look into a nitrous oxide system for my car but I’m just not sure I can handle that much additional speed. I’m going to do more research and keep reading the 2FastLane Blog for product reviews and tips. And I’ll definitely check out their article on brake rotors since my husband mentioned needing those replaced soon on one of our other cars.

I’ve been looking at some nice photos at 2FAstLane also but I’m saving the videos for last. I hope I can find a video of a Honda S2000 smoking a Mustang!

The only thing that would make 2FastLane better is a search function. I couldn’t find one but I may have missed it. I got so caught up in all the great info and photos that a search box may have been there all along. I wonder if they want a pic of my S2000 for their site. ;)
