It’s Football Season Part 2

I’m always surprised when people from other areas of the country tell me they don’t follow high school football. I never realized that everyone’s world didn’t revolve around such things. And it isn’t just that my kids are in high school or that I’ve had a kid in high school for what seems like forever. Around here, people go to high school football games even when their own kids are grown and live 500 miles away.

This past Friday we sat next to a couple whose kids graduated around the time that I did. They still go to all the games. I’d guess that half of the reserved seats are people whose kids are no longer even in the area. It isn’t just our high school, either. Every high school up and down our valley draws big crowds on Friday night. For those who can’t make the game, we listen on the radio.

Some of those in my family take football and school spirit to a new level, though. As a freshman, Boomer bleached his Mohawk and added green tips for his school’s colors of green and gold. With his hair now shorter, Boomer is showing his school spirit in other ways. Imagine his grandma’s surprise when her grandson was shown on the game of the week like this.

Yes, that’s Boomer with the face paint. I’m so proud.
