Beauty Advice, Anyone?

I’m hoping I can get a little advice here.

My skin is looking really tired. It’s dull and discolored. I use a Glycolic lotion and a retinol product now as well as a night cream with peptides. It’s just not enough, though.

I’m thinking of scheduling a facial but I’m concerned that I could break out from it. I’ve heard that can happen sometimes. I’m looking for a service that includes blackhead removal since those are a problem on my nose.

Is there anything I should ask for when scheduling a facial? A special procedure, maybe? Or specific products? Anyone know?

  • Marisa, my advice is to find a cosmetic dermatologist, as opposed to either a regular derm or a spa that does facials. S/he will be the best able to deal with your issues. And I’d stop using all other products prior to your visit. Stick with non-irritating soap and moisturizer so that your skin won’t be over-processed when they perform any procedures. Good luck!

  • I was told that once you have blackheads, you will never really get rid of them. They go so deep in your skin, and i think its because your pores never close up. I live in Birmingham - so not exactly the best of places for my skin, loads of traffic, and fumes etc. I have also been told that cleansing, toning and then moisterising does work, because the cleanser cleans out your pores, the toner closes them to prevent anything getting in, and then moisteriser creates a protective layer over the top. All the time i never really beleived in the ‘3 step routine’ but i should of. Now i have blackheads which i cannot keep away.

  • You already have a solution to your problem. But I myself never prefer to use this kind of lotions and creams. My advice is to use herbal products which will never have an negative impact on the skin.

  • Hi Marisa,

I am only in my 40s, but I am afraid that
I look 50! I am really into my skin.
And I have tried literally hundreds (no kidding)
    of skin remedies.

    but nothing seemed to work.

Then I came across an article on inner beauty.
I am putting the link here so that you can read
    it too:

It is quite an eye opener.

I have come to the conclusion that simple is best.
    Do some of lion poses,
    put on some moisturizer,
protect your skin from too much sun.

how i wished I had known this earlier on.

one more thing, one more thing, if you must put
something on your face, try organic sesame oil.
It works wonders. It is harmless and gentle
    on the skin.

Also drink a lot of water.
This keeps your skin healthy and moist.

  • I think there is no risk of breaking out of scheduling a facial. I take brewer’s yeast twice a day, drink about 2.5 l water and eat lots of fruits and veretables. This is my secret for beauty and complexioned.
