Home Is Here

I love my home. Really, I do. It started out as my grandmother’s house but after much remodeling, it is truly our home. I designed it and my husband built it. It’s big and roomy.

And yet I’d give it up if I could find a way to live near my mom. If we sold our house we’d be lucky to afford half the square footage in my mom’s neighborhood. I’d still want to do it, though. I want to live near my mom.

I know it’s a buyer’s market right now. I don’t need to talk to a real estate agent or mortgage lenders to know that. Just a quick look at the real estate section of the classified ads each week point to falling housing prices and a real buyer’s market.

I guess I know in my heart that I’m in my house to stay. I won’t be leaving my house or my neighborhood anytime soon. My heart just isn’t there anymore.

  • We live sometimes a little too close to family – we don’t appreciate them nearly as much. (They live close enough to walk and often show up unannounced!)

But it’s the reason we haven’t moved for better job opportunities or anything else – you can’t get your family anywhere else!

  • Having our own house designed by our own family members is one of the happiest thing.
Our house is designed by my father.

  • It’s DEFINITELY a buyer’s market right now. That’s a good thing for me though because we’re actually looking to buy a home.

  • Marisa,
I really appreciated your heartfelt comments about moving on. It’s funny how life’s circumstances seem to change on a dime and what once was something that you’d never thought you’d want to leave, becomes something of an anchor. In many ways I hate changes in life which is funny since I’m a real estate agent who’s job is helping others to make big changes. I think we fight change but then wake up one day and realize that change can also keep our life full of new gifts and experiences. I hope you get what you’re heart hopes for most. Judging by your blog, you look at life as full of potential and I wish we had more people who held that same attitude.

  • I bought a home 5 blocks from my mom 4 years ago. It really is wonderful to be close to your mom if you are emotionally close as well! My mother and I didn’t even like eachother till she turned 50 and I turned 30 (thankfully that was 15 years ago and we are very very close now!)

ps – I love your “about me” because it totally reminds me of myself!
