Ready For The New Year
By Marisa | December 29, 2007
They say that whatever you’re doing on the first day of the year, you’ll be doing all year long. I know, it’s just an old wives’ tale or something but I don’t like to take any chances. That’s why I try to make my first day of the year a good one.
For example, I try not to yell at the younger kids and work very hard at keeping them from fighting with each other. I try to talk to each of my older kids that day, too. Since I really don’t like drinking, I make sure I don’t start the New Year off with a hangover. Not too tough since I don’t go out, either.
I also like to have my house really clean for New Year’s. I figure that even though I hate cleaning, starting the New Year off with a clean house might give me that little bit of extra luck I need to keep the dust bunnies and smudges at bay for the next 12 months. I’ll do most of the cleaning on Monday but tomorrow I’m pulling out my latex disposable gloves and giving my kitchen and bathrooms a good scrubbing.
The only sad part of this New Years is that I won’t actually see my older kids. I’m not sure what Chris and Leah will be doing but I know that Jesse will still be in Hawaii. I sure hope that doesn’t mean he’ll be far away for the whole rest of 2008. I was kind of hoping that this would be the year that he moves back home.
So, how do you prepare for the New Year? Hitting the parties or quietly at home? Or do you clean house like I do?

Happy New Year. I guess I’ll be sitting on my ass watching TV all year then.
