Shopping With Teenaged Boys

You would think that after raising 3 sons into adulthood, these last two would do nothing that I hadn’t seen before. You would be wrong. I’m always amazed at how they keep thinking of new things that their older brothers didn’t.

Tonight I had to head to Krogers for milk, bread and a few other things. I asked if anyone wanted to come with me, as I always do, and ended up with Boomer and his friend Josh accompanying me. Not bad. They’re 16 and almost 17, calm and easier to take in public than, say 11 and 12 year olds. Right? Uh, well, maybe.

The boys helped me by grabbing a gallon of milk, some diet pepsi, and a package of ground meat. I headed toward the produce section for bananas and then on to the bakery area for bread. I wanted the boys to try to find the frozen chicken that Maggie wanted but they’d disappeared. They’re old enough that I wasn’t worried about their safety but I was a little annoyed because I wanted to get home before it got dark. (I hate driving in the dark.)

I started up and down the aisles, picking up a few things but also wondering where my boys had gone. When I didn’t run into them, I headed toward that silly claw machine that lets the kids try to pick up stuffed animals with a claw for 50 cents. My kids love that thing. I don’t know if Boomer and Josh stopped by there or not but even so, something else much more interesting caught their eye. Well, a few things, really. It is the Christmas season, after all, so even grocery stores are filled with treats this time of year. Seems that after finding the Santa hats, they noticed some free entertainment so they pulled up a few chairs from another display and, well, see for yourself.

Maybe I like this camera phone after all. And no, I didn’t wait for them to finish watching the movie.
