Reflections

It’s quiet here at home right now. That gives me a chance to think about the day and about the people who helped to make it special. You know, family and friends.
I’ve gotten birthday wishes from friends near and far as well as my husband, kids, parents and sisters. That got me thinking about all these people and I realized that the one person who always sends me a card that makes me laugh and cry at the same time is my sister Monette.
Monette and I are 14 months apart. Except for the fact that I have a better memory than she does (isn’t that scary?) we share all the same memories. Yes, our parents remember, too, but their perspective is different. They remember events as an adult would; Monette and I remember as children do.
No one has known me as long as Monette has; no one shares as much history with me, either. Even though we bickered as kids and fought as teens, we were always sisters. We will always be sisters. And we will always be products of our mother’s upbringing. You see, my mother is the original Grammar Chief of Police.
When my dad had a surgical procedure several months ago, we found ourselves in a hospital waiting room for much longer than we’d anticipated. My mother, my sisters and I chatted and chatted and, as usual, found our way to the topic of grammar, common brain freezes and pet peeves. Others in that waiting room had to think we were a bunch of anal retentive English teachers!
And so today, my sister gave me yet another birthday card that screams, “I know you best and always will!” Because she does. Enjoy.

HAHAHAHA! That is GREAT! Happy Birthday again!
I knew you’d love that!
Yeah, but my husband just looked at me as if to say, “That’s really not funny.” He just had no clue.
I use to do all the talking for both of us when we were very young. It’s a family joke.
Happy belated birthday..and what a lovely relationship with your sister. I have the same with my two sisters…
wishing you the great family forever….
Dorothy from grammology

We can all relate, huh?
Thanks, Jules! Hang tight, Colleen will be home soon with the “key.”
You’re not late at all, Dorothy! Still a little over an hour of celebration left. Thank you so much for the wonderful birthday wishes!
Hahaha!!! That’s great – I love it! We used to tell a joke very similar about an SMU football player and an SMU freshman! Heehee!
