I’m less than an hour away from Today is my 49th birthday. (Took too long to type this out, I guess) This will be my last year in this 4th decade. Next year, it’s the half century mark. Damn.
I know I’m not supposed to tell my age, being a woman and all. I guess I just don’t mind all that much. I mean, what’s so bad about being 49 instead of 39? Or more accurately, what’s so great about being 39 rather than 49? I’m smarter now than I was then; I’ve learned so many more lessons than I had at 29. I like myself a whole lot more than I did at 19. Other than having fewer years left on my calendar of life, why in the world should I keep my age a secret?
It’s been almost two years since I made my last major life change: I quit smoking. I promptly began to gain weight. And now, for the past 3 months, I’ve been losing weight and getting in shape again. I have a plan for my future and I’m feeling hopeful again. I’m not running on a treadmill getting nowhere; I have direction at last.
The last time I felt this good about my future was in 1999. I’d just gotten a job and was losing weight and getting fit. I was 40 years old. I’m not going to wait until I’m 50 to get back on track. I’m doing it now, today. I’m going to dance my way out of my 40s and into the next half century of my life. You see, I have a good reason to want to live healthy for a very, very long time. Her name is Kendyll and I’m going to dance at her wedding someday.

Happy birthday, Sweetie! Maybe somebody will get you a REAL shirt so you don’t have to wear Steelers stuff anymore!
Happy birthday, Marisa!
Take it from someone who is staring 60 in the face, you are in a wonderful time of your life right now. Enjoy every second with that precious little one in your lap because she’ll be grown up and on her own before you can blink. That’s the bad thing about getting older–time just seems to fly!
Hugs,
Maggie
