Wacky Schedule

Brian and Nick have been working “night turn” which is a huge change for us. Usually, construction workers don’t work at night, at least not around here. The building they’re working on, though, is occupied. There’s a call center there, a commercial collection agency and a few offices. But most of the traffic comes from the Goodwill store on the first floor. Trying to work with so many people coming in and out all day is dangerous.

Working nights has been quite an adjustment for the guys but it’s also been tough on me. I’m not accustomed to this schedule. I’m not used to having Brian and Nick at home during the day, underfoot and in the way. I like that Brian isn’t calling for me to get some sleep when I’m awake at midnight from my insomnia, but I miss my quiet daytime. If they’d sleep through the day it might not be so bad but neither of them are getting the hang of that yet. Instead, it’s sleep for a few hours, get up and get in the way, nap for a few hours then get up and go to work. Yuck!

This should go on for a few more weeks before we can get back to normal. Let’s hope I don’t lose my mind before then!

  • I worked many years of swing shift. The sleeping during the day thing was something I could ever master.

  • Marisa, that would make me crazy too. I loved your comment about your husband wanting
you to go to sleep..Joe is the same way, and I end up feeling so guilty when I don’t
come to be sometimes before two or three and I know he doesn’t understand my need
to post. Being on the computer seems to settle my restless mind..before the blog
I use to stay up in bed watching mindless TV..Now I’m off on my own and in webland
    loving every moment..
