A Cold, The Flu and Kidney Stones

For those wondering where I’ve been, I’m here, dealing with life’s little obstacles. I’ve had one kids with the flu this week. I ended up with a cold. And then there was Nick’s kidney stones…. overnight in the emergency room while the kid was doubled over in pain.

After a CT scan, we learned that the 2mm stone had moved from the kidney to the bladder, which caused the pain. It isn’t blocking anything but when it moves and he passes it, more pain will likely ensue.

Oh, and we also found out that he has two more, larger stones in the kidney. Yep, my boy is kidney stone former. He gets that from my dad and my sister. No doubt, working outside in the heat without enough hydration caused these ones to form.

Anyway. I’m tired and I have to help Maggie with her homework. If I can keep my eyes open. Vacation, anyone?

  • Marisa, I was feeling sorry for myself tonight. Had to push myself to read blogs, and then I came to yours. I’m sorry for your days, however, it made me realize this is life. And I better get use to it. Thanks for jolting me in my place. Your days were worst than mine, and I hope you have the strength to get through them..

PS I really enjoy ArmyMom, which I read because of you…Thanks Dorothy

  • Oh… kidney stones are nasty. I used to get them quite often when I was a kid. Especially the teenage years. Then a few other problems developed and through a lot of tests and hospital time it was found that I had a defective kidney from birth. It was removed and I’ve only had stones once since then. (Roughly 30 year period.)

  • Glad they figured that out. I’ve read that they don’t normally start to form until around age 18.

Nick is drinking Gatorade now instead of Pepsi because he doesn’t want to go through that again. I didn’t think he’d ever give up his 12-pack or Pepsi per day habit.

  • Never had kidney stones myself so I guess I’m lucky. I just passed on the tendency to my son.
