John Couey To Die

John Couey has been sentenced to death in the murder of Jessica Lunsford.
Couey also received three life sentences, to be served consecutively for the other charges against him, including kidnapping.
I am not a proponent of the death penalty. I won’t debate it, I just don’t believe it’s the answer although I don’t know what the answer is. However, I have no sympathy for the animal that was sentenced just moments ago. The tears I shed during the sentencing were for Jessica’s family.
God bless Jessica’s father and grandparents.

I am not a proponent of the death penalty either….But civilization took a step forward when this creature was sentenced today. I am the father of an eight year old girl, I cannot think rationally on this subject.
Poor girl, only 9 years old. That guy said that he was sure he would get death penalty.
Marisa, I saw Jessica’s dad speak on television, and he said something that made me think differently about capital punishment. “He took my daughters life, he should be ready to give his” I gasped at the simplicity of his thoughts. It made me wonder if he was right?
Thanks for making a post about Jessica..

Read James Joyce’s essays on crime and punishment. I used to be anti-death penalty. I guess I still am, at least the way it’s implemented in this country.
Thanks for the recommendation. I’ll do that.
And he was right!
I know. I understand. My head tells me that the death penalty is wrong but my emotions are wanting to be the one who ties him up in a garbage bag and buries him alive.
I heard Mark Klaas, whose daughter Polly was kidnapped, sexually assaulted and murdered, speak about the death penalty at the trial of Richard Allen Davis, asking for the death penalty. His reasoning made sense to me.
He said that Davis had said a number of times that he remembered everything he did to Polly and loved thinking about it. Mark told the court that every day that Davis was alive, he was able to derive pleasure from his memories of what he did to Polly. And every day he was raping her and murdering her all over again. He’d never stop until he was dead.
That made sense to me.
