New Shampoo
By Marisa | August 7, 2007
I stopped by Trade Secrets at the mall to pick up my Opi nail polish. I love that stuff. The lady there took forever with the girl in front of me but I remained as patient as I could. I was rewarded with a sample of some shampoo and conditioner I’d not tried before.
It’s called Hempz and the shampoo is sulfate-free. That’s the whole reason I started making my own shampoo, to get rid of the sulfates. And I must say, this shampoo and light conditioner is excellent. I’m hooked.
Now I need to get back to the mall to buy the full size bottles. Samples are great for promotions if the product is really good. (Take note, advertisers!)

What’s wrong with sulfates? I don’t know anything about that stuff, so educate me, please.
Typically, sulfates are more harsh and therefore drying to the hair. It’s not so much that every single person would notice but those with curly hair, which is naturally drier, will definitely see a difference.
Another problem that some people have is with silicones. Silicones are in virtually every conditioner and styling product, giving the product its slip and imparting silky smoothness to the hair. However, silicones also coat the hair and underneath, dry the hair out. So the more you use them, the more you need them. And those of us with curly hair tend to use these products more than others so we end up in a vicious cycle.
