Burned by a playground slide

By Marisa | June 22, 2007

This is just amazing and deserves attention during this summer season. Laura’s kids were playing and when one of them went down the plastic slide in her wet bathing suit, she burned her little bottom. In fact, she ended up with a 2nd degree burn.

I have 6 kids and never would have thought to be concerned about a hot slide. And yet, it stands to reason that a piece of plastic exposed to direct sunlight would get hot enough to cause a burn. All I know is that we’ve been lucky so far. I’ll surely be checking the temp of any slides when my granddaughter is playing at the playground.

If you have kids, please be aware of this hazard. And thanks, Laura, for warning all of us about it.

Oh my gosh! I wouldn’t have ever thought a slide could give 2nd degree burns! That is horrible! I hope her little tush heals quickly.

Yeah, I’ve got six kids and never had that happen. I thought it was important, though. Once is too much, if you ask me.

That’s what we get for switching over to ’safer’ plastics. I remember the big old metal slides from the school playground… ya know, back when dinosaurs roamed the earth. The railings were painted black and were usually too hot to touch while climbing the ladder, but the slide itself, stainless steel and cool to the touch!
