Haircut: Take Two

Yesterday, Boomer, Levi and I attempted to have Boomer’s hair cut for Lock of Love. The barber shop was closed. So we headed back home and now we’re going to try it again.

curlsThe day was not a total waste though. I did manage to get a great picture of Boomer’s curls as we were walking toward the car. Boomer wasn’t happy with me for taking his picture but he got over it. The last picture I took of Boomer showed his beautiful eyes. This one shows his curls in all their glory. I wish my hair looked like that!

The challenge now will be to get a picture of him after he has his hair cut. He wants a Mohawk. Yeah, from those beautiful curls to a… Mohawk. But I have learned over the years that hair grows back and giving kids control of their own hair style gives them a sense of control over their lives. Hair styles are temporary.

Anyway, we’re off to the barber in a few. Then to the mall for a new hat. Fun day!

  • I am long past hair like that. Did he get the mohawk?

  • I never had the chance to get a mohawk when I was younger (or perhaps I didn’t have the guts). Recently had it for a short while until I decided it was not me and shaved it all off.

  • Never thought that letting a child control their hairstyle would boost their ego. Good thought.

  • I learned a lot from mistakes I made with the older kids. Like about choosing your battles. Teens want more control and hair is a safe thing to let them control. Body art (tattoos) are not.

Besides, the pictures make for great humor when the kids are adults. My 28 year old still cringes when he sees the homecoming picture where he’s got that stupid Bowl Cut. :)

  • I remember when I could grow my hair long. Unfortunately, it now takes longer and longer to wash my face, and less time to wash my hair (receeding at a rate of knots). I blame it on sitting in front of CRTs for too long ;>
Good call on the hairstyle being your children’s choice, I had not considered that before, though if/when we have kids of our own, over-bleaching is going to be a big no-no for sure, I don’t think I helped my hair’s longevity by trying to make it 255,255,255 white when I was a teenager :)

  • [...] interesting about Boomer, though, is his hair. He’s got these great lush curls when his hair grows long. When it’s short, it’s super thick and grows quickly. Boomer [...]
