Because One Size Doesn’t Fit All

By Marisa | March 29, 2007

Every woman knows that finding clothes that fit is a major dilemma. Men don’t understand this. I man walks into a store and buys his correct size. If he’s a 34 waist, that’s what he buys. No need to even try the jeans on.

Not so for women. For one thing, every designer sizes their clothes different. I can wear a 6 in one brand but nothing smaller than a 12 in another. It makes shopping for clothes nearly impossible.

And then there’s the issue of body type. I’m convinced that no one should be allowed to design clothes until they have studied the female form extensively. Designers make assumptions like “all fat people are tall so plus size clothes should fit those who are 5′11″ and taller.” Because they’ve never met a short, fat woman.

For some reason designers also believe that small or average size women never have big boobs. Well, until now. Eris Apparel has developed a new size for women’s clothes and it takes into account the large busted woman whose body is of otherwise normal proportions. Finally! Real clothes that fit real women, in styles that are fashionable and flattering.

My husband doesn’t get this concept either. He still can’t figure out why it takes me so long to clothes shop.

I like your blog :) I think some weeds can be as beautiful as flowers. Sometimes, even more beautiful. As far as the clothes fitting, I like my ass to look good too. I will try on several pairs of jeans to find the right one but I don’t take my time. I know my approximate size and the style I want. I get in, get out and get the job done. There’s no reason you can’t try on 5 different pair in 10 minutes time and be in and out of the store with a nice pair that fits well in less than 20 minutes.

You’re a guy, right? So you wear a 34 waist or a 36 or whatever. And other than the fit (to make your ass look good) the size is consistent. Not so with women. Our sizes are either 3,5,7,9,11… or 2,4,6,8,10…. and no two designers or brands use the same measurements as any others. Brand A size 6 may be the same as Brand B size 10 which is smaller than Brand C size 8. Sometimes, there’s no consistency with different styles within the same brand, even!

And that’s just jeans. Bras are even more frustrating. Seriously.

On the up side I can buy jeans for my husband or sons and never have to return them. They all just fit.
