I suppose all mothers know this. All mothers know that the this job never ends. Whether I’m hugging my 10 year old because he’s feeling not so grown up right now or listening patiently to my 27 year old complain about his boss, being a mother is a forever job.
It’s interesting, too, how there are certain things about mothering that you never forget. I mean, none of my kids are in diapers now but I still remember that phase. I still remember breastfeeding, too. Looking back, I think breastfeeding was the most important choice I made way back then. I’m not one of those breastfeeding mothers who look down at those who opt for bottles. I just know that for me, it was the best thing I could have done.
Of course, there were challenges. Even though I was a stay-at-home mom, I still had to leave the baby occasionally. One time, in particular, stands out in my mind. It was shortly after I had Jesse and I needed to have my wisdom teeth extracted. I would be put under general anesthetic so I was advised by the local La Leche League not to breast feed for the following 24 hours at least. That meant I’d have to pump. OUCH!
Back then, about 25 years ago, breast pumps were rather primitive. And they weren’t readily available. Let’s face it, small towns have a skimpy selection anyway and there was no internet. So I had to make do with what was available. In other words, OUCH.
Today, my daughter-in-law has so many better choices than I have. We’re still in the same small town with limited options but now we have the internet. That’s how we discovered Avent Breast Pump. In fact, we found a variety of Avent pumps and other supplies. My daughter-in-law was so excited to see the Avent Vehicle Adapter for her pump. That’s really handy for today’s mom who travels a lot for her job.
My daughter-in-law has nothing for comparison but I couldn’t help but notice the “soft let-down massage cushions” mentioned in the description of the Avent Isis iQ Uno. I think I was born too early. I’d have breastfed my babies so much longer if I’d had these great pumps!
When you check out this site, be sure to read through the Breastfeeding Basics, especially if you’re trying to decide about breast vs. bottle. So much good information there and throughout the website. They even offer live chat help. Gee, if only I’d had the internet 25 years ago. This site would have been my homepage!
