The Human Touch

I’ve registered at more sites in the past 10 years than I could possibly remember. I’ve made online purchases, booked flights, bought concert tickets, configured computers and lots of things I’ve forgotten about. Until now, none of it really stands out. It’s all the same: name, userid, password, etc.

But now, there’s a new feature to online registration that just blows me away. Her name is Connie and she’s right there in the corner of your screen, talking you through the sign up process of any site. I love it!

This feature is part of RegOnline’s event planning software. But I really think there are so many uses for this “Connie” technology. Since I have kids who get online and a granddaughter who is getting familiar with computers at the age of 1, I can see a friendly talking figure on a page to help younger children get more use from the internet. I know Kendyll, my granddaughter, would be so excited to see Dora the Explorer talking to her from the corner of the screen!

With another election season just around the corner, this could work well for candidates who want to reach out to the online world with their messages. In fact, hearing and seeing a candidate in this way would have a greater impact than simply reading their words.

I love this technology. I’m sure there are many other uses for it as well. How would you use it?
