Funeral Plans

My mom called me yesterday to tell me Aunt Helen was getting worse. She held the phone near Aunt Helen’s chest and I could hear that “gurgling.” It’s the breathing before death. The last breaths.

Aunt Helen died around 3pm or so yesterday. My mom was with her.

She’ll be laid at tomorrow from 2-4 and 7-9 then a funeral on Friday.

The last words I heard her say were, “I love you, too.” Yeah. That’s my Aunt “Honey.”

  • Ah, sweets I’m sorry. Though you were “ready” for this, I know that the letting go is hard. You’ll always have a little hole in your heart that only she can fill. Take comfort in knowing that she loved you, and that the love she got in return enriched her life.

    Aloha Aunt Honey.

  • Don’t mean to intrude, but when I read your post just wanted to let you know I’d light a candle for you, losing a loved one even if you try to be prepared for it is hard.
