Family day

I got to take Nick out of rehab for a day with the family. We had to stay in Beaver County which limited what we could do. The mall is not conducive to a family get-together. That left us with Raccoon State Park.

We bought KFC and mostly spent the day eating, talking and fishing. It was very pleasant and turned out well. Nick had a hard time going back.

The big surprise for Nick was that his dad came. Brian had said he couldn’t make it because he had to work. I let it go until Thursday. That’s when I suggested he take off early and meet us at the park. I explained that I’d planned the day at the park because I knew he wouldn’t wnat to go to the mall.

Nick was shocked that his dad showed up. On the way back to rehab Nick said that now he knew his dad loved him. When we got to rehab he told the guy signing him in, “My dad was there. He loves me.”

Okay, I understand Nick’s feelings. My mind can comprehend all of this. But my heart was screaming, “HEY! WHAT ABOUT ME????” I’ve been there twice a week for the past two months. I run around after work getting all the stuff that he needs. I’ve done everything I can think of to be there every day, not just one day. And all he got from this visit was his dad????

I know Nick loves me. I know he doesn’t doubt my love. That counts for a lot. I just need to vent, I guess.
