Mysterious computer ailment

For several months, I’ve had an issue with my computer that I cannot resolve. It’s very strange.

When I put a CD in the drive, my computer attempts to reboot. It doesn’t succeed, though. It just kind of hangs until I take the CD out, then it reboots. It doesn’t matter if it’s a data or music CD.

I’ve tried everything I can think of to fix it. I started, naturally, with a new CD drive. Same problem. I updated my OS, all my drivers, even flashed the BIOS. Still nothing. I swapped the ribbon. Nothing. I even went as far as to get a new hard drive and do a clean install of Windows. Same problem. I changed my boot sequence then took the CD drive completely out of it. Didn’t work.

My external CD burner works just fine. All I can figure is the connector on the motherboard could be bad. Hmm….is that soldered on?

If there’s no asnwer to this problem I think I’ll get an external DVD drive. I have 2 or 3 open USB ports.

I just wish I could figure this out. I hate unsolvable problems.
